What We Believe In
At Verona City Church (VCC), our faith is not flimsy. it is built on the solid, life-changing truth found in the Bible. This is the Word that moves us to Action in the world.
Our Foundation: The Bible
We believe the Holy Bible is God’s divine, inspired, and final authority. It is comprehensive in its provision and entirely trustworthy. It is the infallible map for life and faith, equipping us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17)
The One True God
We believe in one eternal, all-powerful God, the Maker of the universe, who is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient. This one God has revealed Himself as the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit—three distinct persons, yet one in nature and essence (Matthew 28:19).
The Depraved Nature of Humanity
We believe in one eternal, all-powerful God, the Maker of the universe, who is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, and Omniscient. This one God has revealed Himself as the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit—three distinct persons, yet one in nature and essence (Matthew 28:19)
The Saviour: Jesus Christ
Humanity’s only hope is met in the person of Jesus Christ. We believe in His:
Deity (fully God)
Virgin Birth
Atoning Death (He paid the price for our sins).
Resurrection and Ascension (He conquered death).
Abiding Intercession (He prays for us now)
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
II Corinthians 5:17 (NIV)
New Life: Repentance, Justification, and Sanctification
Salvation is a gift received through faith in Christ’s vicarious death. We must repent and confess sin, be justified (declared righteous before God), and live in sanctification—the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit making the believer holy and guaranteeing eternal life (Romans 5:1; Titus 3:5).
he Sacraments: Baptism and Communion
We practice two sacred commands from Jesus:
Water Baptism : By immersion, this is a public testimony of faith for all believers. We don’t baptize infants and children but dedicate them to the Lord.
Holy Communion: The Lord’s Supper, shared in fellowship to remember Christ’s sacrifice until He returns.
The Holy Spirit: Baptism, Gifts, and Fruit
We believe in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit for all believers, with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues. The Spirit empowers us for action through the operation of spiritual gifts and transforms our character through the fruit of the Spirit (Acts 2:4; Galatians 5:22-23)
Divine Healing
We believe that divine healing for sickness and disease is provided for God’s people through the atonement of Jesus Christ. We pray for healing and expect miracles, while also respecting the role of qualified medical professionals (Isaiah 53:4-5; James 5:14-16).
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
John 3:16 (NIV)
The Second Coming and The Next Life
We believe in the glorious Second Coming of Christ to judge the living and the dead. There will be a resurrection of the dead: the saved to eternal life, and the unsaved to damnation. This hope motivates our action today (Acts 1:11; Revelation 22:12, 20)
Tithing and Offerings
We believe in Tithing (giving the tenth of your income) and freewill offerings as acts of worship. This generosity fuels the ministry of VCC, furthering the Kingdom of God and ensuring blessings for the cheerful giver (Malachi 3:10; 2 Corinthians 9:7)
Marriage and Family Life
We believe in the institution of marriage as a lifelong covenant established by God between a man as husband and a woman as wife, as biologically defined at birth. This union is for mutual help, companionship, and the honorable raising of children (Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:4-6)
